Summary of CV:

Associate Professor at the University of Salento, Lecce. Main organizer of an international Master course on experimental developmental biology on marine invertebrates (Station Biologique de Roscoff, Université Paris VI). Past-President of the International Hydrozoan Society. His research activity deals with several aspects of ecological developmental biology and evolution of marine invertebrates, with special reference to Cnidaria. Current interests are focused a) morphogenesis and development biology of basal metazoans, with an evolutionary perspective to highlight ancestral roles of conserved pathways for signal transduction and cell-cell communication, with particular reference to the role of gap junctions; b) ecological and developmental mechanisms boosting jellyfish proliferation in coastal waters.

Experience Higher education:

University courses on the following topics: Zoology, Animal Biology, General Biology, Biodiversity and biotechnologies, Life cycles and Development. I teach in graduate courses since 2000. Since 2005, main organizer of an international Master course on experimental developmental biology on marine invertebrates (Station Biologique de Roscoff, Université Paris VI). Co-organizer of a course on Hydrozoan Taxonomy for the Partnership for Enhancing Expertise in Taxonomy of the National Science Foundation.
